Why now · New York

Gas bills have climbed every year.

New York residential gas climbed from $1.30/therm in 2010 to $1.85+/therm by 2025. Con Edison electric reached $0.30/kWh, the highest residential rate in the country outside California. A heat pump locks you off the gas trajectory, delivering 2.5× the heat per unit of input.

06 · Questions Homeowners Ask

The honest FAQ.

Actual questions that come up in the first installer conversation.

Why does the rebate vary so much by utility?

Each utility manages its own portion of NYS Clean Heat funding, with different incentive levels based on territory needs and ratepayer mix. Your installer should know yours.

What's a DAC bonus?

Disadvantaged Community bonuses apply when your home's census tract is on NYSERDA's DAC list. Roughly one-third of New York households qualify. Bonuses can add up to $2,000 on top of base rebates.

Can I use any HVAC contractor?

No. Only NYS Clean Heat-participating contractors can deliver rebated work.

What about R-410A units I see on Craigslist?

They're no longer rebate-eligible as of January 1, 2026. R-32 or R-454B refrigerant required.
